A small dig was completed the week (17 Nov 08) at t he site of the
Glenrowan Inn. It was featured in a new Ned Kelly documentary.
World famous Tony Robinson (Time Team) was in Glenrowan presenting
interviews for the documentary which also featured
historians Ian Jones
and Alex McDermott as well as archaeologist Adam Ford, who
had been in charge of the May 2008 dig at the Glenrowan Inn.
The weather was perfect on Monday but rained a bit on Wednesday.
There were many visitors in Glenrowan, however most had no idea a
documentary was being made.
Several persons walking along Gladstone St were stopped and asked if
they wished to be interviewed
for the doco. Watching this reminded me
of The Melbourne 'Footy Show's' street talk where they interview morons.
They interviewed more dills than you would wish to find in one town, the
people who knew the most about the story were not asked to be on camera.
Sites investigated included the Inn (this time including the
skillion), the site
of the tents and McDonnell's Railway Hotel. The
stump of the peppercorn
tree was removed during the dig.

Dig International, Adam Ford the archaeologists...Filming in front of 'Big
Ned'.....The beginning, Alex, Ian and Tony on the Siege site.

Local Historian Gary Dean as 'Ned'........Contractor begins the
dig...............Amazingly the geotextile material is easily peeled back from
the last dig.

What started as a mess soon returned to the original look from last dig...the
sign still lays in the dirt.
