Did you know?

Take me back to the Siege.

Did you know that...

*Mrs. Kelly was jailed with her newborn baby.

*Mrs. Jones was charged as a sympathizer the day Ned was hung.

*A well used photo said to be James Kelly and his mother is in fact neither of them.

*Kate Kelly performed on stage on the day Ned was hung.

*McDonnell’s Hotel provided lunch for people watching the siege.

*The Doctor that attended Hare also attended to a wound on a chap named Frank Clune in WW1,  Mr. Clune survived to write several books about Ned Kelly.

*All civilians wounded or killed at Glenrowan were shot by police bullets. (notwithstanding the claim that Ned shot Metcalf by accident)

*A policeman (Bracken) saved Ned’s life.

*Damage to Ned’s suit of armour was as follows:

Eight bullet marks on breast plate.

                Five on the mask.

                Three on the shoulders.

                Nine on the backplate.

* Did you know that Wild Wright’s brother ‘Dummy’ tried to warn McIntyre not to go out (as he did to Stringy Bark Creek) or he would be shot.

* Ned could have easily shot Snr Const Kelly, but his sisters had said Kelly was a nice bloke.

*Anton Weeks was going to visit a neighbour named Mr. Weiner when bailed up by Joe & Dan.

*That Joe Byrne collapsed and fell onto one of the Inn’s prisoners? In fact he fell on a person and those lying close by said that they could hear the sounds of blood rushing from his body. Joe had been fatally wounded by a police bullet.

*Civilian’s lives were saved by a policeman from the wild shooting of a fellow policeman named Steele.

*Joe Byrne had a ‘double-lip’.

*Sergeant Kennedy whilst at Mansfield on his way to Stringybark Creek had to borrow a weapon from the vicar to use in pursuit of the Kelly’s, it was later used to kill him.

*The republic document has never surfaced

* A policeman was about to shoot Joe’s dead body.

*Artist Sidney Nolan’s grandfather was one of the policemen who pursued the gang during their time on the run.

*A greyhound dog belonging to prisoner David Mortimer died in the fire at  Glenrowan and its body was found laying with the bodies of Dan Kelly & Steve Hart.

*Ned told Bracken's child, "I may be worth a lot of money to you"

*McDonnell's Hotel was demolished to make way for a motel, however it was built in a different location. Therefore the demolition was for nothing. It is still an empty block today.
